Beginner Tutorials: Chess, Go, Mahjong & Cube
Meet the pieces, learn the rules, then put them into practice. No experience needed.
Rubik's Cube
01Cube Lesson 1: Pieces, One Turn and Its Undo
Learn the goal, three piece types and viewing versus turning, then undo a right turn and two top half-turns. Complete notation follows next.
Basic Cube Notation: Read the Six Face Turns
Learn the six face letters, inverse turns and half-turns through manual examples. This lesson covers basic face turns; whole-cube rotations, slices and wide turns in other resources need separate explanations, not guesses.
Beginner's Method: Solve the 3x3 Layer by Layer
After Basic Notation, distinguish undoing a scramble record from solving layers. Learn to find pieces, establish the working position and check each stage: white cross, corners, middle layer and last layer.
CFOP, Part 1: Cross and F2L
Learn to pair a bottom-layer corner with its matching middle-layer edge and put them into place together. Identify the target pieces and follow three step-by-step cases; speed is not required.
CFOP, Part 2: Two-Look OLL and PLL
After the first two layers, recognise cases in four stages: edge orientation, corner orientation, corner permutation and edge permutation. This differs from our beginner method; read the prerequisites rather than chaining algorithms blindly.
Five Beautiful Patterns
Optional branch after Basic Notation: create patterns from solved, then undo them manually. CFOP is not a prerequisite.
Chess
01Chess Lesson 1: Pieces, Moves and Winning
Learn the board, six pieces, captures and the objective, then practise moves. Special rules and opening decisions follow in Lesson 2.
Chess Lesson 2: Special Rules, Check and Openings
After Lesson 1, study castling, en passant, promotion, mate threats and draw conditions without repeating the board and piece introduction.
Xiangqi
01Xiangqi Lesson 1: Pieces, Moves and Winning
One consolidated introduction: learn each basic rule once, inspect horse-leg, elephant-eye, cannon-screen and river examples, then play an opening sequence.
Lesson 2: Read Moves and Develop Your Pieces
The old introduction has been merged into Lesson 1. Learn notation, development, clear chariot routes and the purpose of an opening sequence.
Lesson 3: Captures, Protection and Exchanges
Learn protection, recapture and exchange through a complete move sequence and a pre-move checklist.
Lesson 4: Respond to Check and Review a Game
Practise moving the general, capturing the attacker and blocking a chariot, then learn to recognize mate and review mistakes.
Shogi
01Shogi Lesson 1: Direction, Pieces and Turns
Learn the eight basic piece movements once, with coordinates, direction and king safety. Full rules for pieces in hand, drops and promotion follow in Lesson 2.
Shogi Lesson 2: Pieces in Hand, Drops, Promotion and Mate
Build on Lesson 1 with pieces in hand, legal drops and promotion, then analyze mate in one and repetition.
Go
01Go Lesson 1: From Intersections and Liberties to Scoring
Learn the goal, coordinates, connections, captures, legality, survival and scoring in order, with 14 manual exercises and one consolidated explanation of each basic concept.
Mahjong
01Mahjong Lesson 1: Tiles, Sets and Your First Turns
The shared starting point: recognise tile pictures, group sets and pairs, and complete guided turns. Then choose one regional course; consult the illustrated reference as needed.
Japanese Riichi: From Closed Hands and Yaku to Your First Win
After the shared first lesson, learn closed status, yaku, riichi and dora, then distinguish self-draw, discard wins and furiten. Practise a declaration and a legal win without repeating tile recognition.
MCR Mahjong: From Sets to the Eight-Point Minimum
Learn MCR’s minimum, flowers, calls, scoring patterns and settlement using a Pure Straight example, without importing riichi, yaku or dora.
Sichuan Mahjong: Blood Battle, Missing Suit and Exchange
A separate Blood Battle introduction: 108 suited tiles, a missing suit, no chow and multiple successive winners. Exchange, scoring caps and end-of-wall checks require explicit table rules.
Optional Reference: Mahjong Terms and Riichi-Specific Rules
After the shared first lesson, consult as needed. This reference does not repeat tile recognition and ordinary turns. Closed hands, yaku, riichi, dora and furiten are explained in the riichi context, not imported into MCR or Sichuan.
Texas Hold'em
01Texas Hold’em Lesson 1: Cards, Actions and Showdown
Recognise cards and hands, learn chips and actions, then follow a fixed hand and verify its result and balance.
Baccarat
01Baccarat Lesson 1: Cards, Totals and Simulated Settlement
Start with cards and single-digit totals, then follow a simulated stake, deal and settlement before the second drawing example.
