Go · Puzzles

Practise counting liberties, capturing and basic fights on small Go boards, each with a goal and an explanation. Rotates daily.

Capture practice and annotated replay

These local exercises ask you to capture White, not win an entire game. Whole-game results require ending play, agreeing on dead stones and scoring under the selected rules. One capture is not an automatic win.

Goal: capture 1 local white stone(s).

Drag with one finger to explore; tap an intersection to play. Arrow keys also scroll the focused board.

Corner capture

Letters label columns and numbers label rows: E5 is their intersection. Place on an empty intersection, not inside a square. Liberties are orthogonally adjacent empty points, shared by connected stones; diagonals do not count.

White string at A9: 1 liberties at A8. Black has captured 0.
